Both Standard Spanish (Castellano) and Valencian (the local language) are official languages in Valencia. Valenciano is most common in the smaller towns surrounding the city. |

Any phrases you know in Spanish will be appreciated (such as “Hola” - Hello) and you may even win a few friends with a sortie into Valenciano (e.g. try “Bon dia” or good morning - but applicable till about 1500 - instead of the standard Spanish “Buenos Días”).
English is now widely spoken by people under 40 and in bars and clubs !
